The original Space Battleship Yamato was the beginning for a whole genre of space adventure in anime and cartoons. I was aware of it as a kid in the form of Star Blazers. At the time I was too young to really take it all in. My five year old mind just watched the show on an episode to episode basis. My real moment of getting it was actually in Robotech, but the seeds got planted here.
The first and only toy I ever got from Starblazers was a small wind up nomura iq9. It came from a yard sale and stayed with me for more than 30 years. I have been on the lookout for a better quality Analyzer AKA IQ9 ever since. There is a much better Nomura diecast figure and a Banpresto figurine but both are quite expensive now, often going for almost $200.
Now as a result of the new anime Space Battleship Yamato 2199 Bandai Japan have made an all new and fully poseable model kit for the Analyzer character. The parts all come in the correct colours and no glue is required. I built this one using only a pair of nail clippers and a small nail file.
For someone with no skills at model making this is a pretty good result. Just imagine how good it could be if a bit more work was put into it. I bought this for $21 from BBTS. That is about as cheap as anyone could want, so cheap I actually bought two so I may give painting it a try!
